At Riley's Log Cabin Farm you can purchase your own "homestead cabin kit". This includes pre-notched logs (6 1/2" diameter by 8.5 foot) which can be assembled into a single room cabin 12' by 18' or 18' by 24'. A 12 by 18 cabin would require about 120 logs to erect the four walls. Cost for each log is $30.00 - delivery extra. Total cost for four walls would be about $3,600.

By double notching the logs, you can even build a play cabin 8' by 8' for your backyard that can be assembled and disassembled just for fun. This would require about 48 logs for a cost of $1,440. A roof assembly can be made cheaply out of tree stakes formed into a collapsible gable. A canvass tent-top completes the kit. A door jamb assembly can be cut into one of the gable sides. You can see how it's done by visiting our farm. Children stack and unstack this size cabin daily for their tour adventure. In fact, there have been so many requests over the years from fathers who wanted to purchase a "play cabin kit" that we finally geared up to produce these pre-notched logs. The larger size cabins are designed to be permanent hunting cabins or homesteaders cabins - a small weather tight structure that can be built quickly - and by one man if necessary. They can be equipped simply with a wood stove, dry sink, and ice-box - all the comforts of home. For a batchelor that is!

To order a full size kit, or a play cabin kit, we require one half deposit on order and the balance on delivery. Tools required: chainsaw, hammer, 16p nails, 10" rebar spikes (3/8"), sledge hammer, level. Floor and roof materials you provide - but these are easily available from any lumber yard. Advice is free!
